Send a useful support request
For Weather Relay support, email support@lanternacre.com. Use Lanternacre.com for release-specific guidance. Choose the details and files to provide for the issue you want help with. Include the app version and build, your macOS version and Mac model, the action you took, and the exact message or visible symptom. Add the time and the receiving and local-viewer status. A short example or screenshot can help when you have permission to share it. Keep account credentials in the service’s own sign-in screen.
Prepare screenshots and attachments. Review a copy before sending it. Screenshots, saved feeds, and diagnostic details can show account names, folder paths, location queries, and information unrelated to the issue. Keep the details needed to explain the problem; cover unrelated personal or business information and remove any visible passwords, sign-in or recovery codes, API keys, and access tokens. Mark any redactions so the edited copy is clear. Keep relevant weather source attribution and product times visible, and leave the original weather file and library unchanged.
Confirm the current support contact and how it accepts attachments before sending a file. Choose the relevant screenshot or file and check the recipient in your delivery service. That service manages its own copies under its settings and policies.
Monitoring and receiver-health help
For a configurable local alert, received-warning map/history, saved dashboard, decoded retained station observation, or receiver-health question, include the saved place or rule name if relevant, whether the app was receiving, whether the item came from current collection or backfill, the displayed request/source/receipt times, and the exact notification or diagnostic message. These monitoring tools work from the retained local library. A received item, retained history, map absence, or request success does not by itself establish a current warning state, all-clear, product validity, or complete coverage.
Alerts and health notifications are optional and start off. They rely on macOS notification permission and settings; they do not start collection or guarantee delivery. See the local monitoring guide for the supported limits.
Receiving
Receive weather and review gaps
Choose Start receiving and keep your Mac awake and connected. The app checks bulletin archives every two minutes and map archives every fifteen minutes, and attempts recent-history backfill. Text backfill covers an available three-hour archive; image backfill covers an available one-hour archive. Interruptions and incomplete archive retrieval can leave gaps. Review the receiver status and history notices for connection changes and recorded gaps. Check the issuing source for current weather information.
Choose Stop receiving to end the current collection session. Wait for the acknowledged Stopped status. The local viewer and resume-on-open setting have their own controls.
Read the times in a weather product
Use the observation or forecast time and legend printed in the original bulletin or image to understand its weather period. First received records the product’s first arrival in your library. Repeated receipt, archive metadata, and export time describe later handling of that product. Compare these clocks when reviewing newly received material.
History
Choose history settings and a folder
A fresh Store-edition library begins with seven days and a 512 MB limit. A previously created Store-edition library uses its accepted settings. Review these values in Settings. Each time you choose Done, Weather Relay applies the displayed history and storage limits. This check, receiving, and scheduled work can remove eligible older records and history files.
The Store edition creates a fresh library. Keep earlier review-edition history separately in its original folder. Stop receiving and close the local viewer before changing the save location. Choose save location selects a parent folder where the app creates a new Lanternacre Weather History child. Renew saved folder access restores the user grant for the same previously created Store-edition library.
Clear saved location information
Stop receiving, wait for Stopped, then close the local viewer and wait for its stopped status. Open Settings and choose Forget saved locations and profile. The app waits for current library work, removes the current library’s cached location profile, clears recent Store-edition queries after confirmed profile removal, and clears the location filter. Weather originals, other libraries, exported copies, and backups keep their existing contents.
Wait for the reset to finish. An error can leave the cached profile removed while the saved query list remains. Keep the exact message and current folder for support review. All areas clears the active filter while keeping saved queries available.
Playback and images
Listen and review images
Select a text bulletin, choose an installed English voice and speed, and press Play. Weather Relay prepares temporary audio locally for playback. Confirm sound through your Mac’s selected output device. Use Pause, Resume, Stop, Back, and Forward to control playback. For silent playback, check the output device, mute, volume, and installed voice.
Select an image series and use Previous, Next, or Animate to review retained originals. Animation prepares up to 24 frames within a 64 MiB decoded-image limit. Set each frame hold from 0.5 to 8 seconds; the final frame has an extra 2.5-second pause. Read each frame’s native time, covered area, and legend. When the app reports a missing original or animation limit, use the available retained versions and manual stepping.
Use the browser reader
Open local viewer opens the human reader at http://127.0.0.1:8787/ on the same Mac. Local JSON feeds serve products permitted by the app’s source-rights rules to compatible software on that Mac. Close local viewer ends this separate service. If the port is occupied, record the message and use Weather Relay’s native reader while you resolve the local conflict.
Sharing
Share an eligible original
After an eligible bulletin or weather map loads, choose Share beside Save a copy. Weather Relay passes an unchanged temporary copy of the selected original to the standard macOS Share menu. Choose the service and recipient in that picker. No service or recipient is selected, and no transfer is attempted, until you act.
After cancellation or completion of the share action, the app requests removal of its temporary snapshot. An interrupted exit or cleanup failure can leave a temporary file in macOS storage. The selected service and recipient manage their independent copies under their own settings and policies. Preserve source attribution and check product-specific reuse terms before sharing.
Preservation
Preserve history and get recovery help
Stop receiving, close the local viewer, stop speech and animation, then choose Quit. Wait for the application and its work to finish before copying or moving history. If the app displays a shutdown warning or remains open while finishing work, leave the history folder in place and contact Lanternacre with the exact message.
Keep earlier weather-history folders and their complete contents together. Save a copy exports a selected original or the current bounded feed. For help with a complete library copy, earlier review-edition history, or release-specific recovery, contact Lanternacre with the app version and folder details.
